Answers

In this sheet you should write your answers separated by commas. E.g. x=1, y=3.

Solve the following pairs of simultaneous equations. Spot the terms with opposite signs!

  1. \left\{\begin{eqnarray} 4x + 2y & = & 10 \\ 6x -2y & = & 0 \end{eqnarray}\right.
  2. \left\{\begin{eqnarray} 7a + 2b & = & 23 \\ 8a -2b & = & 22 \end{eqnarray}\right.
  3. \left\{\begin{eqnarray} 2m + 2n & = & 8 \\ 4m -2n & = & 4 \end{eqnarray}\right.
  4. \left\{\begin{eqnarray} 3x + 5y & = & 18 \\ -3x + 3y & = & 6 \end{eqnarray}\right.
  5. Solve the following pairs of simultaneous equations. Spot the terms with the same sign!

  6. \left\{\begin{eqnarray} 2x + 4y & = & 40 \\ 2x + 4y & = & 40 \end{eqnarray}\right.
  7. \left\{\begin{eqnarray} 7a + 4b & = & 46 \\ 3a + 4b & = & 22 \end{eqnarray}\right.
  8. \left\{\begin{eqnarray} 3m + 3n & = & 21 \\ 8m + 3n & = & 31 \end{eqnarray}\right.
  9. \left\{\begin{eqnarray} 3x + 8y & = & 77 \\ 3x + 8y & = & 77 \end{eqnarray}\right.
  10. Solve the following pairs of simultaneous equations. You may need to multiply one equation first.

  11. \left\{\begin{eqnarray} 3x + 2y & = & 14 \\ x + 5y & = & 22 \end{eqnarray}\right.
  12. \left\{\begin{eqnarray} 7p + q & = & 14 \\ 4p -8q & = & -52 \end{eqnarray}\right.
  13. \left\{\begin{eqnarray} a + 7b & = & 22 \\ 4a + 2b & = & 10 \end{eqnarray}\right.
  14. \left\{\begin{eqnarray} 3u -5v & = & -32 \\ 4u + v & = & 11 \end{eqnarray}\right.
